The Venomous Abyss — Season 2 Raid Guide
Boss-by-boss mechanics, wipe causes, role jobs, Heroic changes, and raid leader calls for the swarm.
Live / Heroic Update — Patch 12.1
Big thanks to Tes
Research date: September 3, 2026.
This version incorporates the guild notes plus live Patch 12.1/Heroic corrections and hotfixes available through September 3, 2026. The raid opened for Normal, Heroic, and Mythic on August 19, 2026.
Important: Live values supersede older PTR notes. In particular, do not use the old Twin Fangs 11-stack Heroic wording; Heroic is lethal at 10 Eternal Venom stacks.
1. Nek'zali the Soulcoiler
Fight at a Glance
Fight type: Two-phase single-target fight with recurring adds and a 50% intermission.
Bloodlust: Pull. Live guides recommend using Bloodlust/Heroism at the start of the encounter.
Major assignment: Kill Restless Amani before they reach the Soulcoil Well; split the raid for the 50% intermission.
Win condition: Keep the center clean, place Essence Rend outside, execute the intermission cleanly, then finish Phase 2 before overlapping mechanics overwhelm the raid.
Assignments Before Pull
Add priority is mandatory: Restless Amani die before boss damage.
Preassign two balanced intermission groups for the 50% split.
Healers agree on Essence Rend dispel responsibility and only dispel after the target reaches the outside.
Tank points Possession Barrage away from the raid and keeps the raid clear of the impact line.
On Heroic, plan to group Amani corpses before 50% so resurrected spirits are easier to burn.
Big Wipe Causes
Restless Amani reaching the Soulcoil Well.
Essence Rend circles being dropped through the raid or near center.
Possession Barrage being aimed through the group.
Poor corpse placement before the Heroic intermission.
Intermission groups being uneven or slow to kill their assigned Echo/miniboss.
Fight Timeline
Pull / Phase 1
Restless Amani spawn from lit sarcophagi and move toward the Soulcoil Well. Swap immediately and kill them before they reach center.
Essence Rend is a magic debuff. The target moves to the outside before the dispel; removing it leaves a circle that continues rotating around the room.
Possession Barrage is the tank frontal/projectile. Keep everyone behind the boss and away from the tank when it connects.
Approaching 50%
Begin grouping Amani corpses if possible, especially on Heroic.
Make sure both intermission groups are ready and positioned to move to their assigned Echo/miniboss.
Do not enter the transition with adds still alive.
50% Intermission - Ritual of Awakening
Two Echo/miniboss targets become the priority. Split the raid into the preassigned groups and burn them down.
Fire soaks/rings are part of the intermission and can help kill resurrected Amani spirits on Heroic.
On Heroic, previously killed Amani resurrect where they died, which is why corpse placement before the transition matters.
Phase 2 / Kill
The boss gains additional pressure, including Invoke repositioning the previously dropped circles.
Continue treating adds and safe Rend placement as higher priority than greed damage.
Use Bloodlust in Phase 2 and commit healing cooldowns as raid pressure increases.
Role Jobs
Melee DPS
Adds > boss whenever Restless Amani are active.
Stay behind the boss and away from the tank during Possession Barrage.
If targeted by Essence Rend, move outside before the dispel.
During intermission, burn your assigned Echo/miniboss and help clean resurrected Amani.
Ranged DPS
Start on Restless Amani immediately as they spawn.
Keep the center clear and avoid dropping Essence Rend circles in raid traffic.
Maintain add damage while moving and help stabilize the weaker intermission side if called.
Tanks
Aim Possession Barrage away from the raid.
Do not allow players to stack near you when the projectile connects.
Keep boss positioning stable so adds and Rend paths remain predictable.
During intermission, handle your assigned Echo/miniboss and keep your group anchored.
Healers
Treat Essence Rend as a placement mechanic, not an instant dispel.
Wait until the target reaches the outside before removing Rend.
Prepare for intermission fire-soak damage and heavier Phase 2 raid pressure.
Coordinate major healing cooldowns around the intermission and late Phase 2.
Heroic / Live Changes
Restless Amani corpses must be burned during the intermission with Hungering Pyre or Cremation to prevent them from returning.
Group Amani corpses before 50% so the group Hungering Pyre soaks can cover multiple corpses efficiently.
Use melee and tanks for the group corpse soaks when practical; use Cremation for remaining individual corpses.
Do not let players die in the Soulcoil Well and do not allow living Amani to reach it; either event empowers the boss.
Raid Leader Calls
Phase 1: "Adds now. Rend out. Frontal clear."
Approaching 50%: "Group corpses. Finish adds. Get to your split."
Intermission: "Groups split. Burn Echoes. Use fire on spirits."
Phase 2: "Lust. Adds first. Rend out. Keep center clean."
Detailed Mechanic Reference
Restless Amani: Spawn from lit sarcophagi and move toward the Soulcoil Well. If they reach center, the raid loses control of the fight. Their death locations matter on Heroic because they resurrect during the intermission.
Essence Rend: Magic debuff that must be carried to the outside before dispel. The dispel leaves a persistent rotating circle, so bad placement creates long-term movement problems.
Possession Barrage: Tank frontal/projectile. The raid stays behind the boss and clear of the tank when it lands.
Ritual of Awakening: Begins at 50% and creates two priority Echo/miniboss targets. The raid splits into two planned groups.
Heroic resurrected Amani: Return where they died. Grouping corpses before the transition makes them easier to hit with fire soaks and cleave.
Invoke: Phase 2 repositions the circles created by Essence Rend, so clean early placement continues to matter later.
Back to boss list ↑2. Entombed Sentinels
Core Fight
Split the raid into two teams. Keep the Sentinels separated, manage each side's mechanics, and keep boss health reasonably balanced before the intermission.
Big Wipe Causes
- Bosses drifting too close together; keep them at least 40 yards apart so Ula'tek's Dominance does not reduce their damage taken by 99%.
- Toxic Droplets expiring unsoaked or Venom Coagulation living too long.
- Bad intermission symbol matching.
- Heroic DoT puddles dropped in usable space.
Mechanic Breakdown
- Blood of Ula'Tek: recurring DoTs throughout the fight. On Heroic, expired DoTs leave puddles based on the size of the DoT, so control where they end.
- Unstable Miasma: small group soak; make sure assigned players are in.
- Breath of Ula'Tek: Toxic Droplets spawn slime puddles that must be soaked quickly, and Venom Coagulation pulses raid damage until killed.
- Slime projectiles can travel through the boss and reach the opposite side, so both teams need to watch cross-room traffic.
- Intermission: everyone gets a symbol/stack debuff. Pre-spread, identify the matching symbol, and collide with the correct partner to reduce stacks.
- Vitriolic Stasis: bosses become immune and health is restored toward the lower Sentinel, so entering intermission with balanced boss health matters.
Melee DPS
- Stay on your assigned side and do not drift toward the other Sentinel.
- On the Breath side, swap immediately to Venom Coagulation.
- Watch for projectiles that can travel through the boss into the opposite side.
Ranged DPS
- Help correct boss-health imbalance when needed without over-pushing one side.
- Help soak Toxic Droplets and kill Venom Coagulation quickly.
- Maintain awareness of mechanics crossing from the opposite group.
Tanks
- One tank per Sentinel.
- Maintain the required separation at all times.
- Keep each boss positioned consistently so both teams have predictable safe space.
- Handle the large tank DoT and avoid unnecessary movement toward center.
Healers
- Split healer coverage evenly between the two teams.
- Blood side: prepare for recurring DoTs and controlled puddle placement.
- Breath side: prepare for soak damage and add pressure.
- During intermission, handle your own symbol/stack matching while continuing to cover your side.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Blood-side DoTs create puddles when they expire; plan their locations rather than letting them consume the team's usable space.
- Keep the Sentinels at least 40 yards apart to avoid the severe damage-reduction effect from boss proximity.
- Balance boss health before the 100-energy intermission so the health-restoration effect does not erase avoidable progress.
- Pre-spread and identify the matching symbol/partner before the intermission collision sequence.
Raid Leader
- Preassign two fixed teams with a tank and healer coverage on each side.
- Keep bosses separated and call for ranged swaps if one boss gets too far ahead.
- Assign who covers Toxic Droplets and who hard-swaps Venom Coagulation.
- Before intermission, remind everyone to pre-spread and identify their matching partner.
- Recommended pull calls: "Stay with your team. Keep bosses apart. Balance health. Soak droplets. Kill add. Find your match."
3. The Lost Explorers
Core Fight
A three-target council encounter built around Mor'zahi's energy and the Disgusting Fish. Feed the Fish to a selected Explorer before Mor'zahi completes Final Ascension. Each Explorer can be fed only once, so Fish use is a planned raid-leader resource.
Live recommendation: use the Fish when Mor'zahi is around 90–95 energy, then execute the resulting Ultimate cleanly.
Big Wipe Causes
- Mor'zahi reaches full energy because the Fish was late or misused.
- Mushrooms are triggered before the Gebbo bomb needs them.
- Nama soak groups are incomplete.
- Too many Frostfire debuffs are cleared at once.
Mechanic Breakdown
- Scrollsage Iku: interrupt Icebound Flames. Blinknova targets a player; the farther the raid is from the impact, the less raid damage it deals.
- First Mate Nama: Shell Spin fires toward melee; position it toward the outside. On Heroic, proximity between relevant bosses causes extreme damage reduction.
- Trader Gebbo: Sling Fish throws boxes around the room. Interacting with boxes causes raid damage/bleeding until one reveals the Disgusting Fish.
- The Fish is the encounter's energy reset: Mor'zahi reaching full energy triggers Final Ascension. Use the Fish before that cast completes; the selected Explorer then performs its Ultimate. Each Explorer can receive the Fish only once.
- Gebbo Ultimate: mushrooms spawn and a bomb target must use one to survive the shockwave. Do not trigger mushrooms early.
- Nama Ultimate: Mighty Thud creates three simultaneous soaks; use three assigned groups. It repeats twice.
- Iku Ultimate: Frostfire Volley gives Ice primarily to melee and Fire primarily to ranged. Clear by touching the opposite debuff, but stagger clears because each removal hits the raid.
Melee DPS
- Interrupt Iku's Icebound Flames.
- Position Nama's Shell Spin toward the outside instead of through the raid.
- During Frostfire Volley, find the opposite debuff when it is your turn to clear.
- Do not clear Frostfire at the same time as everyone else if the raid is staggering removals.
Ranged DPS
- Help with Iku interrupts as assigned.
- Handle Sling Fish boxes efficiently without forcing melee to leave the bosses.
- During Frostfire Volley, find the opposite debuff and stagger clears.
- Be ready to spread and reposition for Gebbo's Ultimate.
Tanks
- Tank the two tankable Explorers; Gebbo is not traditionally tanked.
- Keep positioning predictable for Nama's shells.
- On Heroic, respect boss-proximity restrictions.
Healers
- Opening boxes causes raid damage/bleeding, so expect repeated background pressure.
- Plan cooldowns around Ultimates: Gebbo bomb/shockwave, Nama triple soaks, and Iku Frostfire clears.
- Watch staggered Frostfire removals; multiple simultaneous clears can create a large raid spike.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Boss proximity can create extreme damage reduction; keep the encounter's relevant bosses separated as required.
- Gebbo's bomb sequence leaves additional ground pressure, making mushroom/bomb timing and placement more important.
- Frostfire clears should be staggered so multiple simultaneous removals do not create an avoidable raid spike.
Raid Leader
- Establish the interrupt order for Iku before the pull.
- Assign box coverage and one caller for the fish.
- Treat fish use as a raid-leader decision, not a free pickup: it resets Mor'zahi and deliberately starts an Ultimate.
- Preassign three soak groups for Nama's Mighty Thud.
- For Frostfire Volley, call staggered clears and pair melee/ranged efficiently.
- Recommended pull calls: "Kick Iku. Shells out. Touch boxes. Find fish. Hold fish for call. Ultimate next."
4. Vashnik the Malignant
Core Fight
Control which venom Vashnik gains by rotating him between the Blood, Shadow, and Flame fountains. Manage the add type and Adaptive Infection tied to the active venom.
Big Wipe Causes
- Repeating the same fountain/infusion until its mechanics become unmanageable.
- Multiple Flame adds dying together or Flame dispels being chained together.
- Plague Froth crosses fired through melee.
- Blood or Shadow adds left uncontrolled.
Mechanic Breakdown
- Imbibe: Vashnik draws power from the nearest fountains/shrines. Repeating the same infusion makes its associated mechanics increasingly dangerous, so rotate the boss around the room.
- Flame adds pulse AoE and explode on death. On Heroic, deaths can add stacking fire pressure; stagger kills instead of detonating the pack together.
- Blood add: one large add that cannot simply be CC'd away. Killing it splits into two, then those split again. Focus the chain down cleanly.
- Shadow adds: many smaller shielded adds. Keep slows up and cleave them; their deaths can create puddles/projectiles.
- Plague Froth persists through the fight. Debuffed players fire waves in a cross pattern, so move away from melee and do not aim a cross through the raid.
- Adaptive Infection changes by active venom: Shadow creates a healing absorb and puddle pressure; Flame is a dispellable DoT that causes an AoE hit when removed; Blood is a healing debuff that must be handled through the encounter's leech/share-healing interaction.
Melee DPS
- Move Plague Froth cross patterns away from the melee stack.
- Swap immediately to priority adds.
- Stay clear of the tank's reposition path when Vashnik moves to a new fountain.
Ranged DPS
- Focus on Shadow Venom adds when assigned; slows and cleave are especially useful.
- Keep Plague Froth crosses away from the raid.
- Continue damage while the boss is being repositioned.
Tanks
- Boss positioning controls the venom sequence.
- Move deliberately between fountain combinations according to the raid plan.
- Keep Vashnik stable during each burn/add window and move before the next Imbibe.
Healers
- Shadow: heal through/remove the absorb and account for puddles.
- Flame: dispel the magic DoT, but stagger dispels because removals cause raid damage.
- Blood: players need the special healing/leech interaction rather than normal brute-force healing.
- Watch Flame-add deaths because their deaths can create raid-wide spikes.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Flame-add deaths can leave stacking fire pressure, so stagger kills instead of detonating the pack together.
- Malignant Catalyst/Catalytic Bile creates individual soak responsibility; assign ranged players around the boss so circles can be covered reliably.
- Stagger Flame dispels because removing the Flame infection causes raid damage.
Raid Leader
- Decide the fountain rotation before the pull and make the tank movement calls.
- For Heroic, preassign Catalytic Bile soaks and spread ranged players to cover the circles.
- Assign ranged players to Shadow adds and slows.
- Call staggered Flame add kills and staggered Flame dispels.
- Remind Plague Froth targets to move crosses away from melee.
- Recommended pull calls: "Move fountain. Crosses out. Adds. Stagger Flame deaths. Healers stagger dispels."
5. Sszorak
Core Fight
Manage Viscous Cyst placement, pair opposite Raging Crosswinds, execute the Apex Predator combo, and survive repeated knockbacks during Dig In.
Live timing: Dig In grants Sszorak a 25% damage increase for 25 seconds and occurs roughly around the two-minute mark. Save meaningful offensive cooldowns for this window while prioritizing survival.
Big Wipe Causes
- Cysts scattered in bad locations.
- Raging Crosswinds pairs fail and players are displaced off the platform.
- Mutilate soak groups miss assignments.
- Players greed damage during Dig In instead of surviving and recentering.
Mechanic Breakdown
- Venomous Surge targets players who drop Viscous Cysts. Cysts can knock players and are part of the later wind setup, so place them at planned spots rather than randomly.
- Raging Crosswinds gives directional winds. Line up with a player whose wind points the opposite direction; colliding/counteracting the movement cancels the dangerous displacement.
- Apex Predator is a multi-part combo and the order can vary. Ravage is the tank frontal, Tempest spawns tornadoes and applies a dispellable poison, and Mutilate is a group soak.
- Heroic Mutilate: split the raid into two soak groups.
- Dig In: Sszorak plants in the middle for a major damage-amplification window while repeated knockbacks happen. Stack, survive the knock, recenter, and repeat.
- After Dig In, clear remaining cysts so they do not auto-detonate later.
Melee DPS
- Respect Ravage/frontals immediately; do not trade survival for uptime.
- Do not chase through tornadoes.
- Move into your assigned Mutilate soak group.
- During Dig In, use cooldowns while still prioritizing knockback survival.
Ranged DPS
- Place cysts at assigned locations instead of scattering them randomly.
- Pair correctly for Raging Crosswinds.
- Stay close enough to your partner that the wind-cancel interaction is reliable.
- Maintain damage during movement-heavy sections.
Tanks
- Aim Ravage away from the raid.
- Keep Sszorak positioned so melee are not trapped by cysts or tornadoes.
- Recenter cleanly after displacement mechanics when possible.
Healers
- Tempest applies poison that can be dispelled.
- Mutilate creates predictable group-soak damage.
- Dig In combines repeated displacement with raid damage, making it a strong healing-cooldown window.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Mutilate should be handled with two assigned soak groups.
- Cyst cleanup after Dig In is important to prevent surprise detonations later.
- September 1 live hotfix: Sszorak's health was reduced by up to 10% for smaller Normal/Heroic raid sizes.
- September 1 live hotfix: fewer players are targeted by Raging Crosswinds on Normal/Heroic.
Raid Leader
- Mark cyst-drop locations before the pull.
- Explain the opposite-wind pairing rule and assign loose partner lanes if helpful.
- Call the Apex Predator sequence clearly as it happens.
- Preassign Mutilate soak groups.
- During Dig In, call the rhythm: stack, knock, recenter, repeat.
- Recommended pull calls: "Cysts to marks. Find opposite wind. Apex incoming. Soak group one/two. Dig In - stack, knock, recenter."
6. The Twin Fangs
Core Fight
This encounter is primarily Eternal Venom stack management. Many poison mechanics add stacks, and Ravenous Feast is the planned way to clear them.
Heroic live threshold: 10 Eternal Venom stacks is lethal. Heroic uses three assigned Ravenous Feast soak groups.
Big Wipe Causes
- Eternal Venom stacks are allowed to reach lethal levels.
- The same players take too many globules.
- Venomous Emergence adds survive too long or line targets move through the raid.
- Ravenous Feast groups are missed or used by the wrong players.
Mechanic Breakdown
- Eternal Venom is the encounter's central resource. Multiple poison mechanics add stacks, so the goal is to gain them slowly and deliberately clear them with Ravenous Feast before reaching the lethal threshold.
- Caustic Globules are soakable orbs that add Eternal Venom. Spread the responsibility so one player does not take every stack.
- Vile Flood creates rotating beam patterns around Vexhul. Read the rotation early and move with it.
- Venomous Emergence spawns adds in the middle and adds poison pressure. Hard-swap immediately. If targeted by the add's line, hold still so everyone else can move around it.
- Coiling Ichor targets players with a shrinking circle/puddle that becomes more dangerous over time; use a defensive if needed and place it cleanly.
- Ravenous Feast is the intentional stack reset. Ithraz performs three group soaks/slams, each removing poison stacks. On Heroic, use three groups so each player only takes one assigned slam.
Melee DPS
- Watch Stone Breaker and stay out of front-facing danger.
- Hard-swap to Venomous Emergence adds.
- If targeted by the add's line, hold still so the raid can move around you instead of sweeping the line through the group.
Ranged DPS
- Swap immediately to Emergence adds.
- Help soak/intercept globules without letting one player accumulate too many poison stacks.
- Read Vile Flood rotation early and move with the pattern.
Tanks
- Keep boss positioning predictable.
- Aim Stone Breaker away from the raid.
- Track your own poison stacks just as aggressively as everyone else.
- Coordinate positioning around Ravenous Feast and the intermission.
Healers
- Track Eternal Venom stacks across the raid and identify players nearing danger before the next Feast.
- Coiling Ichor becomes more dangerous as the circle contracts; use externals when needed.
- During Ravenous Feast, know which players belong to each assigned soak group.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Use three Ravenous Feast groups, one group per slam.
- Heroic live threshold: reaching 10 Eternal Venom stacks is lethal. Track stacks proactively rather than waiting for the final safe stack.
- September 1 hotfixes corrected an issue where Mythic immunities could bypass the death threshold; the live Mythic threshold is also now 10 stacks.
Raid Leader
- Put Eternal Venom stack tracking at the center of the strategy.
- Assign globule soakers so the same players do not take every stack.
- Hard-call Emergence add swaps.
- Preassign Ravenous Feast groups and call each slam by group number.
- Recommended pull calls: "Watch stacks. Adds now. Line target hold still. Feast groups ready - one, two, three."
7. The Coiled Altar
Core Fight
Three major sections: Zul'jan, Malacrass, then both bosses together. Zul'jan positioning in Phase 1 matters later because he resurrects where he died.
Live: Bloodlust/Heroism is best held for Phase 3, when both bosses are active and the final overlap begins.
Big Wipe Causes
- Zul'jan dies in a bad location and resurrects there later.
- Too many Coalesced Venom orbs are destroyed together on Heroic.
- Wail of Terror or Eternal Nightfall is not stopped quickly.
- Manifestations are not frozen/grouped for Soul Sever.
- Final boss health is not balanced for the simultaneous kill.
Mechanic Breakdown
Phase 1 - Zul'jan
- Coalesced Venom orbs need to be cleared. The tank's Sever frontal can destroy them. On Heroic, orb destruction adds DoT pressure, so do not clear every orb at once.
- Guillotine is a large group soak. On Heroic, soakers gain an amplification debuff, so alternate two soak groups.
- Axegrinder: dodge the axes. When Zul'jan dies, remaining venom is cleared and the transition creates a major healing check.
- Kill Zul'jan near the center because he later resurrects where he died.
Phase 2 - Malacrass
- Dreadmarch mind-controls players; break them out quickly. Manifestations then fixate players. Face your Manifestation to freeze it, bring it to the assigned marker, and let the tank's Soul Sever frontal destroy the frozen group.
- Soulcoiler ghosts cast Wail of Terror and teleport after interrupts; maintain a ranged interrupt rotation.
- Gloombomb creates spirits that must be collected quickly. The skull debuff/icon indicates the collection requirement is complete.
- Eternal Nightfall gives Malacrass a shield; the raid must break it quickly to stop lethal incoming damage.
Intermission / Final Phase
- Lust during the resurrection intermission and pump Zul'jan while Malacrass is immune. Spirits that reach players deal damage; spirits that reach Zul'jan heal him.
- Final phase overlaps both bosses' mechanics. Keep health balanced and kill them together; the original notes warn of a massive damage increase if one survives.
Melee DPS
- Dodge Axegrinder and stay out of Sever unless specifically required.
- Take your assigned Guillotine soak.
- In the Malacrass phase, break mind-controlled players quickly and interrupt Wail of Terror when assigned.
- If a Manifestation is chasing you, face it to freeze it, then bring it to the assigned marker.
Ranged DPS
- Help manage Coalesced Venom while maintaining boss uptime.
- During Malacrass, cover Soulcoiler ghost interrupts as they teleport.
- Break mind-controlled players quickly and help stack/freeze Manifestations at the assigned location.
- During the intermission, intercept spirits while continuing damage into Zul'jan.
Tanks
- Use Sever to destroy Coalesced Venom targets.
- Position Zul'jan so he dies near the center of the room.
- During Malacrass, aim Soul Sever through frozen Manifestations to destroy them.
- In the final phase, keep both bosses positioned for efficient cleave without unsafe mechanic overlap.
Healers
- On Heroic, orb destruction adds raid DoT pressure, so avoid clearing too many at once.
- Guillotine groups create predictable burst windows.
- Use major cooldowns around the Zul'jan death transition.
- Watch Gloombomb targets and spirit collection.
- Prepare for heavy damage during Eternal Nightfall while the shield is being broken.
- Final phase is the highest overlap section; save meaningful cooldown coverage for it.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Split Guillotine into alternating soak groups because soakers gain an amplification debuff.
- Gloombomb and other Phase 2 mechanics create much tighter execution requirements.
- In the final phase, both bosses must die together; keep their health balanced and avoid leaving one alive long enough to trigger the severe damage increase.
- Live hotfixes reduced Malacrass Phase 3 health on Normal/Heroic and reduced the Veil of Twilight absorb on those difficulties.
Raid Leader
- Phase 1: assign orb handlers and Guillotine groups; make sure Zul'jan dies in the center.
- Phase 2: establish the MC break priority, Wail of Terror interrupt rotation, Manifestation freeze marker, and tank frontal line.
- Intermission: call Lust and all damage into Zul'jan; remind players to stop spirits from reaching him.
- Final phase: assign one caller to watch both boss health bars and call swaps so they die together.
- Recommended pull calls: "P1 orbs and Guillotine groups; kill Zul'jan center. P2 break MC, freeze adds, tank frontal, kick ghosts. Shield. Intermission Lust. Final phase balance bosses."
8. Ula'tek
Research Status
The original shared PTR notes did not include an Ula'tek strategy because the boss had not been released for testing. Everything below is based on current Patch 12.1 encounter information and is separated into confirmed mechanics, recommended first-pull handling, and items that still need live confirmation.
Core Fight
Three phases with an intermission between Phases 2 and 3. This is a two-target fight with frequent adds, shrinking safe space, and a major egg-control assignment. Ula'tek and Gore Rattle share damage through Ula'tek's Bond. Recommended Bloodlust timing: start of Phase 3.
Main priority: protect eggs from Caustic Waves, execute Spectral Coil soaks, control Phase 2 Wardens and Doomscale Eggs, then kill Ula'tek before the platform is destroyed.
Big Wipe Causes
- Caustic Waves hatch too many eggs and add permanent Putrid Membrane pressure.
- Spectral Coil soaks are missed or the same Heroic group tries to soak consecutively.
- Malice, Anguished Cry, or Vicious Echoes interrupts are missed.
- A full-strength Ravenous Doomscale hatches.
- Serpent's Bite handoffs fail or Volatile Purge detonates in the group.
- Phase 3 runs out of safe platform.
Phase 1 - Fury of the Serpent Mother
- Call of the Serpent drops Blightscale Spawn eggs from the ceiling. Avoid the 4-yard landing impacts.
- Touching an egg attaches it to the player through Malignant Shell and deals periodic Nature damage. Assign mobile ranged players as primary egg carriers with backups.
- Caustic Waves travel across the platform, deal a stacking 10-second DoT, and instantly hatch any egg they touch.
- A hatched egg creates a Blightscale Viper and applies Putrid Membrane to the entire raid. Putrid Membrane lasts for the pull, so every accidental hatch adds permanent healing pressure.
- Egg carriers should immediately move eggs out of visible wave lanes and away from the boss movement route.
- Ula'tek and Gore Rattle must both remain in melee combat. Ula'tek uses Unchecked Rage without a melee target; Gore Rattle uses Rattler Slam without one.
- Mother's Wrath knocks the Ula'tek tank back and repeatedly bites while the tank remains within reach. If the tank is outside her reach, the effect hits the whole raid. Save movement tools to remain or return to melee immediately.
- Mother's Wrath applies stacking Stone Venom and Hobbled. Recommended starting plan: swap tanks after each complete Wrath sequence until the live stack timing is established.
- Mephitic Thrash damages and knocks back players within 35 yards; players outside 35 yards receive a separate hit and DoT. Do not blindly run far away. Position the raid so the knockback sends players toward safe platform.
- Spectral Coils deals raid-wide damage reduced by the number of players within 10 yards of the impact. Treat it as a group soak.
- Rage of the Shackled lasts 20 seconds, deals repeated raid damage, and creates Falling Debris circles. During it, the Venomous Heart is exposed and takes 200% increased damage. Swap to the Heart, dodge debris, and use a planned healing cooldown.
- Necrotic Vapors adds stacking background raid damage as the encounter progresses.
Phase 2 - Children of the Doomscale
- Doomscale Wardens protect nearby Doomscale Eggs. Warden's Protection damages players within 7 yards and prevents anyone from touching the protected egg while the Warden lives.
- Interrupt Malice. It is an interruptible raid-damage cast and should have a fixed kick order.
- Shadow Molt moves the Warden to a new location, so ranged interrupts must stay ready when melee lose contact.
- Writhing Gestation transforms nearby Blightscale Spawn into a Blightscale Clutch that hatches after 20 seconds. Hard-swap and break the Clutch before it finishes.
- Grasping Fangs slows affected players. Snapping or removing a fang applies Blight Vein. On Heroic, Blight Vein is applied to the entire raid, so remove fangs one at a time and let the first raid DoT settle before the second.
- After the Warden dies, the Doomscale Egg can be picked up. Doomscale Shell attaches the egg to its carrier, and the creature hatches after 20 seconds.
- A full Ravenous Doomscale uses Dread Roar, repeatedly damaging and stunning the entire raid. Prevent a normal hatch.
- Disrupting the gestation creates Defect: Weakened: the Doomscale takes 100% increased damage and cannot use Dread Roar.
- The Doomscale Cauldron is described as ready to devour an offering. Recommended first-pull handling: carry the unprotected Doomscale Egg to the cauldron before the 20-second timer expires. Confirm the exact deposit/throw interaction on the first pull.
- The Weakened Doomscale becomes top priority. Interrupt Anguished Cry and point Desperate Thrash away from the raid.
- Virulent Spit creates small impact zones; move out immediately.
- Rage of the Shackled and Venomous Heart windows can continue during this stage. Swap to the Heart while maintaining add control.
Intermission - The Shattering
- Spectral Coils continue while Necrotic Vapors builds.
- Move as a compact group, place each Coil predictably, and soak every impact.
- On Heroic, Soul Constrictor prevents players who mitigated one Coil from mitigating the next. Alternate two balanced soak groups: Group A, then Group B, then repeat.
- Live hotfix: Spectral Coils now requires 40% of the raid to reduce its damage to the minimum value.
- Put at least one healer in each Coil group and plan healing cooldowns for Coil plus Necrotic Vapors overlaps.
Phase 3 - Ula'tek's Ascension
- Bloodlust/Heroism: start of Phase 3.
- Circling Prey destroys part of the platform. Leave the inner 13-yard impact area, avoid being knocked into missing floor or venom, and reposition immediately onto the surviving platform.
- Caustic Waves and egg control continue. Safe platform and preventing egg hatches remain more important than uninterrupted boss uptime.
- Call of the Serpent summons Blightscale Clutches, Rawlings, Vipers, and Shriekers.
- Recommended add priority: a Clutch near hatching, a Shrieker casting Vicious Echoes, a Viper, then Rawlings through cleave.
- Interrupt Vicious Echoes. Shriekers also apply Acidic Expulsion, creating long raid-wide poison pressure.
- Vipers use Acidic Burst. On Heroic, Petrifying Sting targets an area around a player, applies a large healing absorb, and damages everyone within 10 yards. The target moves away; healers clear the absorb quickly.
- On Heroic, Rawlings apply stacking Poisonous Bite to their current target. Pick them up and cleave them down rather than leaving them active.
- Serpent's Bite lasts 15 seconds. If it expires, the target becomes a Calcified Corpse and takes lethal repeating damage through immunities; on live Heroic/Mythic, Calcified Corpse also radiates massive raid damage.
- A player within 7 yards can leech Serpent's Bite off the target. The helper receives Volatile Purge and must move at least 7 yards away before it explodes 5 seconds later.
- Preassign Bite partners and separate purge lanes: Bite target meets partner, partner leeches, original target moves away, purge carrier moves out alone.
- Mother's Wrath, Necrotic Vapors, and Heart burn windows continue.
- Fury Unleashed is the final enrage. Use all remaining damage, healing cooldowns, and personals before it overwhelms the raid.
Melee DPS
- Stay in your assigned Spectral Coil group.
- Hard-swap to Clutches, Wardens, Weakened Doomscales, Shriekers, and Vipers.
- Follow the interrupt order for Malice, Anguished Cry, and Vicious Echoes.
- Stay behind Weakened Doomscales and avoid Desperate Thrash.
- Position for Mephitic Thrash knockbacks instead of greeding uptime near an edge.
- Use a nearby assigned Serpent's Bite partner in Phase 3.
Ranged DPS
- Preferred primary and backup egg carriers because they can preserve more uptime while moving eggs.
- Move eggs out of Caustic Wave lanes immediately and keep carrier paths separated.
- Cover Warden interrupts after Shadow Molt moves the add.
- Swap quickly to distant Clutches and Shriekers.
- Spread for Heroic Petrifying Sting and keep Sting targets away from the group.
- Maintain assigned Coil groups and Serpent's Bite partner lanes.
Tanks
- Start with one tank on Ula'tek and one on Gore Rattle. Never leave either target without someone in melee.
- Position Mother's Wrath with safe space behind the Ula'tek tank and save movement abilities for the knockback.
- Begin by swapping after each Wrath sequence; adjust once the live Stone Venom/Hobbled timing is confirmed.
- Pick up Wardens, Weakened Doomscales, Rawlings, and other active adds promptly.
- Point Desperate Thrash away from the raid.
- In Phase 3, reposition Ula'tek and adds quickly after Circling Prey removes platform space.
Healers
- An accidental egg hatch applies Putrid Membrane to everyone for the pull. Treat each hatch as permanent additional raid damage.
- Plan cooldowns for Rage of the Shackled/Heart windows, Spectral Coil overlaps, the Shattering intermission, and late Phase 3.
- Watch egg carriers while Malignant Shell is attached.
- On Heroic, stagger Grasping Fangs removals because Blight Vein hits the full raid.
- Clear Petrifying Sting healing absorbs quickly and watch Viper Acidic Burst targets.
- Track Serpent's Bite targets and Volatile Purge helpers through the full handoff.
- Necrotic Vapors stacks over time, so later versions of every mechanic will require more throughput.
Heroic / Live Notes
- Soul Constrictor requires alternating Spectral Coil groups; the same group cannot mitigate consecutive Coils.
- Heroic Grasping Fangs targets three players per side regardless of raid size. Break the tethers sequentially because Blight Vein affects the entire raid.
- Blight Vein damage was reduced on Heroic in the August 20 hotfix, but sequential Fang removal remains the safe execution.
- Blightscale Rawlings apply stacking Poisonous Bite.
- Blightscale Vipers cast Petrifying Sting, creating a 10-yard healing-absorb area around the target.
- Mass Gestation means disturbing a Doomscale Egg can start Writhing Gestation on remaining Blightscale Spawn on that side; prepare or clear the side before committing to the egg.
- Players affected by Calcified Corpse now radiate massive raid damage on Heroic and Mythic. Treat failed Serpent's Bite handoffs as a raid-wide emergency, not merely an individual death.
Raid Leader
- Assign two primary egg carriers and at least one backup.
- On Heroic, assign three Fang targets per side and call the removals one at a time.
- Split Heroic Spectral Coil soaks into balanced Groups A and B, each with healer coverage.
- Create interrupt orders for Malice, Anguished Cry, and Vicious Echoes.
- Assign Phase 2 sides and one Doomscale Egg carrier per side.
- On Heroic, call one Grasping Fangs removal at a time.
- Preassign Serpent's Bite partners and separate Volatile Purge lanes.
- Bloodlust/Heroism: start of Phase 3.
- Suggested calls: "Eggs down - carriers move." "Wave - clear egg lanes." "Coil A in; B next." "Kick Malice." "Clutch - hard swap." "Warden dead - egg to cauldron." "Kick Cry; frontal away." "Phase 3 Lust." "Circling - leave the inner ring." "Bite pairs - leech, then purge out."
First-Pull Checks
- Confirm the exact interaction used to place or throw a Doomscale Egg into the cauldron.
- Confirm egg count, landing positions, and Caustic Wave patterns for the raid size.
- Confirm how Grasping Fangs are snapped and the safest removal timing.
- Confirm phase transition health/energy thresholds and Phase 3 platform-destruction order.
- Confirm the best live tank-swap timing and required Spectral Coil soak size.
- Adjust add priority after seeing the exact Phase 3 spawn sequence.
